Vision

Denver United will be a church family that establishes Jesus’ kingdom in the city of Denver by:

  • Being one in spirit and purpose, united across the spectra of age, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, doctrine and church tradition (John 17: 20-23).
  • Prioritizing, promoting and cultivating the inner life of prayer and consecration in each member’s personal relationship with Jesus (Matthew 6:33, Jeremiah 29:13).
  • Elevating the Word of God through personal and group Bible study and exegetical preaching (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12, Deuteronomy 8:3).
  • Defending, caring for and advocating for the most marginalized in our local and global society (Isaiah 1:17, James 1:27, Psalm 68:5).
  • Pursuing and celebrating excellence in every sphere of influence (Daniel 1, Colossians 3:17).
  • Proclaiming the Gospel in the city of Denver through personal relationships and practical expressions of Jesus’ love (Matthew 25:31-40, Matthew 28:18-20).
  • Participating in strategic global missions among the world’s least reached and most deprived peoples through prayer, missionary partnership, and short-term missions (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8).

Mainstream evangelical doctrine

Denver United Church is an interdenominational family of Jesus Christ’s followers. As such, we respect every established theological stream within the span of orthodoxy reflected in the evangelical tradition. Denver United Church purposes to focus on the absolute, non-negotiable truths of Scripture. These truths are capably expressed in two succinct confessions. For centuries, the Apostles’ Creed has united God’s people around a clear, biblical declaration of Christian belief. Additionally, the Statement of Faith of the National Association of Evangelicals has emerged from the leadership of Billy Graham, Carl Henry, and other fathers of modern evangelicalism as the central code of evangelical doctrine. These two confessions comprise our statement of beliefs.

In short, we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, fully human and fully divine; the Bible is the Word of God, authoritative for Christian living; people need to be born again through Jesus’ redemptive work on the cross by repentance and faith in Christ; and the church is on assignment to establish God’s kingdom on the earth.

Corporate worship

Our church meetings focus primarily on the indisputable core truths of the Bible. As we are committed to the whole counsel of Scripture, though, Denver United will address matters of scriptural interpretation with spiritual vigor and intellectual honesty, leaving room for all respected interpretations. We are committed to being accessible to the non-church world and unwavering toward God’s eternal truth. Thomas Jefferson put it succinctly: “In matters of style, swim with the current. In matters of principle, stand like a rock.”

The condition of humankind

We recognize human beings to be both made uniquely in the image of God and born with a sinful nature. In Christ, we find redemption from sin and reconciliation with God. Drawing from unnecessarily divergent streams of Christian thought, we acknowledge believers in Christ as both sinners in need of God’s grace and saints growing in the likeness of Jesus. Denver United purposes to aid Christ’s followers in becoming ever more the second and less the first.

The ministry of the Holy Spirit

On the questions of the expression and relevance of the Holy Spirit’s ministry, you might consider Denver United “good sense charismatic.” Recognizing that the two primary sources of power to change and accomplish God’s work in this life are his Word and his Spirit, and believing the scriptural gifts of the Holy Spirit to be current and accessible, we endeavor to apply the Holy Spirit’s power in our lives and ministries.

The role of the church

We believe Christ’s church is both a reservoir for his restorative work in people’s lives and a training ground for equipping his followers. As such, Denver United aims to balance facilitating Jesus’ emotional, mental, physical and relational healing in peoples’ lives with his synergistic preparatory work among his saints. We are committed to empowering, synchronizing, and advancing the ministry calling of every Denver United member.
